SHC M2 Break Away to Top of the Table, with a 5-1 Victory over Acomb M2
Introduction
SHC Men’s 2nd XI hosted Acomb M2, pulling together with a team effort to claim the points. This 5-1 win pushes Scarborough two points clear at the top of the table, primed for promotion.
First Half Overview
The game started quickly, with SHC M2 shifting the play from side to side. Many of their efforts broke through the Acomb back line, allowing club stalwart George Tolley to open the scoring four minutes in. A Will Simpson penalty corner added another before Levi Wontroba rounded off the first half with a well-taken goal to make it 3-0.
Second Half Overview
Scarborough, not finished, pushed forward for Wontroba to claim his second of the day. Play moved firmly in the home team's favour until Acomb found a breakaway goal after an over-committed Scarborough, proving that "the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry." Regrouping, the home team regained their shape and composure, capping off the day with a Will Ward back-post goal.
Conclusion
A well-deserved win moves SHC M2 two points clear at the top of the table, with a +20 goal difference over their closest rivals. With a slip week to follow, SHC will regroup and prepare to travel to Hull M4s for their next challenge. The team welcomed junior Ollie Belcher for his senior team debut; the whole team was encouraged by his efforts and are looking forward to much more to come.
