Smash & Crab for Harrogate

After an action packed weekend of hockey at Scarborough College due to the Pret Festival, which had a fairytale ending as Team Precious where crowned champions. Focus shifted to Scarborough 2nd as they hosted Harrogate 6th, which was the 2nd 1st home match of the season & where looking to cash in on points. There was plenty of support from the sidelines for Scarborough.

Harrogate got the 1st half underway Scarborough where looking to tired out the opposition by taking a numeric advantage with substitution’s available at their dispose. This was evident in the early moments as Harrogate had their backs against the wall and home side where on top in all departments especially in midfield. Jonny Scott, Will Palmer, Lucian Watts, Nicholas David & Michael Humphries where looking dangerous in the middle of the park with intricate passing looking to breakdown a resilience Harrogate side. Scarborough continued to probe at Harrogate’s goal then against the run of play Harrogate produced a quick attack, which resulted in the 1st goal. Scarborough Goalkeeper Euan Harker was unable to keep the ball out of goal. Waves of attacks where coming from all angles at Harrogate’s Goal as they had 11 players behind the ball Lucian Watts, Michael Humphries & Nicholas David where causing havoc to their backline. Scarborough at last managed to get the best of Harrogate’s goalkeeper as Michael Humphries produced an inspired run down the right wing to pass the ball to Lewis Walker at the bar line were Samuel Echevarría was placed in the D to meg Harrogate’s goalkeeper. Scarborough where getting a lot of joy down Harrogate’s right wing as Harry Renwick & Michael Humphries produced excellent link up play with dangerous balls into the penalty area.

Both teams went into the break all-square Scarborough knew they should be out of been out of sight after battering Harrogate’s goal.

There was an early goal in the 2nd half as Harrogate regained the lead after intercepting a loose pass in midfield this allowed for an overload in attacking players where their striker calmly slotted away the ball. Scarborough pegged back Harrogate instantly as Samuel Echevarría became unmarked in the D where he was able to latch onto an incoming cross & guide it into at the right post. Max Mudd, James Robertson, Ayham Zeido & Jacob Hutchinson continued to produce great composer when possessing the ball & tackling players within the match. Harrogate managed to get a brief rest bite & hit Scarborough again as all their players wanted to get in on the act this way by another accurate counter attack. Harrogate continued to invite pressure onto them & Michael Humphries took advantage as he was given time to roam into the D & let a shot rip into the bottom left corner.

With only 5 minutes to go there was Heartbreak for Scarborough as Harrogate produced the knockout blow from a scramble inside the D to slot their 4th goal away. It was desperate times for Scarborough as they continued to look for an equalizer but where unable to beat Harrogate’s star man in goal.

As the umpires blew to signal the end of a pulsating end to end match. Scarborough will be scratching their heads wondering how this match fell through their fingers. Both teams are in action this weekend in West Yorkshire with 1st away to Wakefield 5th for a 12:00 push back & the 2nd away Airedale 3rd for a 13:30 push back.

Man of the match: Samuel Echevarría for demonstrating an excellent display in attacked & scoring 2 goals.
